COLUMBA

THE DOVE OF PEACE

CELESTIAL MESSENGER:

The Dove

Columba was created to represent the dove sent out by Noah in search of land, or the dove used by the Argonauts to navigate.

PRIMARY STAR
Phact

A blue-white subgiant.

ORIGIN
16th CENTURY

By Petrus Plancius (1592).

Legacy of the Dove 📜

🕊️

THE MESSENGER | ORIGIN

Columba Noachi (Noah's Dove) was introduced to represent the bird that returned with an olive branch, symbolizing the end of the Great Flood and the return of hope.

PHACT | THE ALPHA

The brightest star, Phact, is a subgiant star that is much hotter than our Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic word for 'ring-dove.'

RUNAWAY STARS

Columba contains Mu Columbae, a 'runaway star' that is flying away from the Orion Nebula at over 100 km/s after being kicked out by a cosmic explosion!

"Did you know? Columba is home to the 'Solar Antapex,' the point in space that our Solar System is moving away from as we travel through the galaxy!"

Paper

COLUMBA SCAN 🕊️

Objective: 10-Item Runaway Star Calibration.

Sources

PHACT (ALPHA)

A Be-type star located **261 light-years** away. It is a rapid rotator and is surrounded by a disk of expelled gas, making it slightly variable in brightness.

ALPHA DATA
Magnitude: 2.65

RUNAWAY STAR

**Mu Columbae** is a "runaway" star, moving at over **100 km/s**. It likely originated in the Orion Nebula and was ejected by a supernova or binary interaction.

KINEMATICS
Object: Mu Columbae

NGC 1851

A compact globular cluster located in the southern part of the constellation. It is known for its high central density and contains many "blue straggler" stars.
